I’ve been writing, publishing, and studying fiction all my life, and I’ve learned something from every class, workshop, and community I’ve been in. But over the years, I’ve figured out the answers to some of the questions I’ve had as a writer that were never addressed in any workshop or class. Beyond the Writing Workshop is my ongoing attempt to pin down these observations and share them with other writers. For my author website, visit Kiran Kaur Saini.
Upcoming Classes
JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2026 – “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Interiority” (Metro West Writers’ Guild, 4 weeks, $100)
Being able to reflect your character’s interiority is a crucial skill in making that character feel believable and alive. It allows the reader feel they’re with the character personally rather than watching from a distance. But…
- What exactly is interiority? And what isn’t interiority?
- Why do we need it and what does it accomplish?
- When should we use it?
- How much should there be?
In this class, we’ll take a comprehensive look at the different types of interiority and the many techniques and methods to achieve it, including looking at examples from authors in a variety of genres. We’ll also discuss interiority in relation to point of view and authorial voice. Finally, we’ll have a chance to try some of these techniques out in exercises and discuss them in class.
Registration will be available soon.
